Hi my name is Judy Blondel. Welcome to our presentation of preparing your 2013 form 1099 miscellaneous. We will refer to this simply as form 1099 or just 1099 today. You will learn how to prepare print and transmit 1099 forms to your vendors and to the IRS. We will review the information you will need to have on hand prior to issuing the 1099. A vendor would need a 1099 if they operate a business as an individual partnership trust or estate, but if they operate as a corporation, a 1099 generally is not required. You should obtain a form w-9 from your vendors prior to issuing payments and, of course, by the end of the year to ensure that you have all the required information. If your business doesn't use 1099 vendors such as self-employed businesses or if you have your accountant take care of 1099 vendors, you don't need to turn on the preference. The 1099 vendors are treated just like any other vendor you use. You enter and pay bills and QuickBooks will track these payments. You will need to generate 1099 reports at the end of the year if your 1099 vendor has reached the filing threshold of $600 for the form 1099. If you want to activate or inactivate this preference, go to the menu bar under edit preferences and then scroll down to tax 1099. Click on the company preferences tab and then answer the question do you file 1099 miscellaneous forms to turn this function either on or off at the end of your fiscal year. The 1099 vendors option may be turned on and off depending on your business, if you are activating the 1099 vendors. You will also need to map the accounts associated to the 1099 fields. How to prepare IRS 1099-MISC 2014
About IRS 1099-MISC 2014
The IRS 1099-MISC form for the year 2024 is a tax document used to report income received by individuals or businesses who are not employees. It is typically utilized for payments made to freelancers, independent contractors, or self-employed individuals. The purpose of this form is to provide the IRS with information about the amount of miscellaneous income earned by the recipient, enabling them to accurately calculate and report their tax liability. The 1099-MISC form is required to be filed by anyone who has paid at least $600 in rents, services, royalties, or other income-related categories to a non-employee throughout the year. This includes businesses, sole proprietors, partnerships, and any other entity that made such payments. Additionally, if an individual or business paid $10 or more in royalties or broker payments in lieu of dividends or tax-exempt interest, the 1099-MISC form should also be filed. Recipients of the form, such as freelancers and independent contractors, require it for properly reporting their income and filing their tax returns accurately. Furthermore, businesses and organizations that made payments as outlined above must provide a copy of the 1099-MISC form to each recipient by January 31st of the following year, and file the form with the IRS by February 28th, or March 31st if filed electronically.
